After courting for three years, Henry Angelo Vosti and Lois Elvene Curtis were finally married on June 19, 1926. The Modesto News Herald described the nuptials far better than I could have.
“At a lovely garden ceremony this afternoon at 4:30, Miss Lois Elvene Curtis became the bride of Henry Vosti. Dr. M.P. McClure of the First Presbyterian Church of Modesto read the services in the garden of the bride’s parents, Mr. & Mrs. J. L. Curtis, in Salida.
A large bell of Shasta daisies from which streamers of white silk maline was draped, hung in the pergola. The pergola was beautifully decorated in gladioli. Shasta daisies and ferns. Two large baskets of gladioli were arranged on each side. Under this large bell the bride and groom exchanged wedding vows.
Miss Maxine Murphy sung “I Love You Truly,” after which the sweet strains of Mendelssohn’s wedding march was played by Miss Helen Surrhyne of Modesto.
The bride was given in marriage by her father. She was becomingly gowned in white flat crepe, a veil of white tulle, held in place by a wreath of orange blossoms fell in graceful folds about her. She carried a shower bouquet of butterfly roses, brides’ roses and lily of the valley.
She was attended by Miss Frances Parks of San Jose, who wore a becoming dress of apricot crepe and carried an arm bouquet of butterfly roses. The groom was attended by his brother, Wilford Vosti.
After the wedding ceremony a solo, “Because,” was sung by Mrs. Frank Bonander of Turlock, after which most delicious dainty refreshments were served on the spacious lawn. The small tables were beautiful with delphinium and Shasta daisies. Mrs. Vosti is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Curtis, who have resided in Salida for many years.
She was a graduate of the Modesto High School and Junior College. She finished her business education at a secretarial school in Oakland and is a very popular young lady in both Modesto and Turlock as well as Salida. Her many friends wish her much happiness.
Mr. Vosti is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Vosti, wealthy ranchers living near Salida, and is a prominent young business man, being cashier of the First National Bank of Salida and is a very popular among his many friends.
Mr. & Mrs. Vosti motored to Los Angeles to spend their honeymoon and upon returning will make their home in Salida.” (Modesto News Herald)
Relatives who attended the wedding included Mrs. George Eveland of Folsom, Aunt Oresta Thornburg, Uncle Henry Folletta, along with Henry’s cousins Leo, Elmer and Wilbur Folletta, Lois’ sisters Aimee and Frances Curtis, her brother Caroll Curtis, Henry’s sister and brother, Rose and Wilford Vosti, and of course the parents of the happy couple – James and Bertha Curtis and Joe and Anna Vosti.
Bertha Eveland Curtis loved flowers and was known for her beautiful garden at her little house in Salida, so it was a perfect spot for the wedding. Henry and Lois were married for 62 years!
