Harold Ely Merrick and Marion Elizabeth Skewis were married on July 30, 1927. The Pittsburgh newspaper reported all the details.
“One of the fashionable weddings of the past month took place Saturday evening at 7 o’clock in the Central Presbyterian Church before a large circle of friends, when Miss Marion Skewis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Skewis of Library Avenue, became the bride of Harold Ely Merrick, son of Mrs. D. Reuben Pomeroy of Amherst, Mass. Rev LeRoy Lawther, pastor of the Lakewood Presbyterian Church, Cleveland, formerly of this city, read the services. Preceding the ceremony, Charles Meredith sang “O Promise Me” and the wedding music was played by Miss Hattie May Manley of Springfield, Mass.
The altar was embanked with ferns and pink and white gladiola. The bride, who walked to the altar on her father’s arm, wore a gown of white chiffon, trimmed with silver beads. Her tulle veil was caught in place with orange blossoms and she carried an arm bouquet of white roses and lilies of the valley.
Mrs. J.E. McCartney of Myersdale, was matron of honor, and wore a gown of lavender crepe, a large black picture hat, and carried pink Columbia roses. Miss Savina Skewis, a sister of the bride, was maid of honor, and wore pink taffeta with a large black picture hat and carried butterfly roses and blue larkspur. Little Jean McCullough, daughter of Dr. and Mr.Thomas McCullough of Pittsburgh, was flower girl and wore a white crepe frock and carried a basket of garden flowers.
Charles Meredith of Quakerstown was groomsman and the ushers were Paul Skewis, a brother of the bride, Howard Carothers of McKeesport, and Dr. Thomas McCullough of Pittsburgh.
Covers were laid for 75 at the wedding supper which followed the ceremony in the bride’s home. The home was beautifully decorated in vari-colored gladiola and ferns.” (Pittsburgh Daily Press)
